Still hanging on!!!!

9th February 2057

The Feng Huang and Anubis class craft close in on the Tau Ceti battle group who are now powerless at the Sol jump point. The Anubis class craft opens fire with 21 particle torpedoes and one of the Fly Swatter AMM craft is destroyed and 205 survivors make it to the life pods. Unfortunately the Commander doesn't make it. The Tau Ceti aliens then attack with salvos of 31 AMM's which bounce off the armor of the Broadsword ASM craft. With no where to run it's just a matter of time. At 6:32 a second Broadsword is destroyed and 186 survivors make it this time the first of the Sunstrike sensor craft is taken next and Lieutenant Commander Natasha Lawson makes it to the life pods with 224 others. Finally at 6:33 all craft are destroyed and over a 1000 survivors are stranded in space. All contact with the Tau Ceti aliens has been lost.

At 7:03 the Anubis is picked up in the Sol system at 19:30 after a long chase one of the Gormus class craft is destroyed 172 survivors make it unfortunately Commander Alice Kaur is killed. The Anubis then continue onwards towards Earth. Waiting in Earth orbit are 7 Broadsword MK 2's and 2 Fly Swatters MK 2. Also Earth is protected by 15 PDC's.

14th February 2057

As the Anubis closes on Earth it launches and takes out one of the defensive PDC's. Due to the enemies ECM the decision is made to close range and the 7 Broadswords set an intercept course for the Anubis and 4:44 it pays off as 12 missiles strike the Anubis reducing it's speed to 1934 km/s shortly after one of the Broadswords is taken out.

The descision is made to pullback to Earth orbit and monitor the Anubis craft this is in vain as all remaining Broadswords are destroyed 2 mins later. The Anubis then proceeds to destroy all the defensive installations on Earth. Another lesson learnt keep upgrading defenses the current one's are very old and as can be seen no use.

Well it's over the Anubis has destroyed all ships in Earth orbit and the end of the human race is in sight. Hope this has been enjoyable and I certainly learnt lot's of valuable lessons. There are still numerous things not covered in this AAR maybe I will do another when I improve. It's very embarassing that one ship can destroy an empire. All I can say is well done to the Tau Ceti empire they where a pain from the start and maybe sometime I will get my revenge.

Aftermath and Strategic Planning

All ships in the Tau Ceti battle group survived the encounter with the Spider class alien craft. Although some systems where damaged. Damage control was initiated to repair engines first as the fleet heads towards the Sol jump point.

Meanwhile on Earth plans to get maintenance and fuel craft to the fleet are put into action as well as ships to restock the depleted missile supplies. Research also continues to improve the missile tech.

Contact is lost with the Spider craft which is also retreating either for reinforcements or to repair I will shortly find out which.

1st February 2057

The Tau Ceti battle group reach the Sol jump point and remain on high alert scanning for any hostile contacts. The sensor range around the jump point is 336 million kms.

The following design is created as a missile resupply ship:

Cerberus Missile Resupply class Cruiser 16150 tons 613 Crew 1875.2 BP TCS 323 TH 660 EM 0

Ion Engine E8 Military (11) Power 60 Fuel Use 80% Signature 60 Armour 0 Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 50,000 Litres Range 7.0 billion km (39 days at full power)

This design is classed as a military vessel for maintenance purposes

A military jump tender that can get ships in and out is now required.

8th February 2057

At 11:01 three hostile contacts are detected approaching the Tau Ceti battle group stationed by the Sol jump point. Two are Marshal and Anubis with a tonnage of 24,000 as encountered before the third is designated Feng Huang and has a tonnage of16,000 tons. The battle group is put on red alert there is now way of knowing if the fleet has been detected. We only have 83 ASM's left and 605 AMM's so defense will be our best policy. All three alien ships are closing at 5624 km/s.

At 19:57 all three alien contacts are 162m km from the battle group current ASM range is 70.5m km the target decision will need to made soon but from the limited intelligence gained the choice of target is not clear. At 23:18 the alien active sensor is detected at a range of 88.2m km the fleet is still not within missile range. So far no hostile launches have been detected.

The Marshall class craft breaks away from the main fleet at 23:23 which may mean it's the eyes of the other craft. Too bad it's out of range.

9th February 2057

A hostile missile contact is picked up and targeted by the three AMM ships salvo size is 20 with a thermal signature of 5. At 00:10 one of the Broadsword ASM craft is hit by 20 size 5 missile. The craft is not destroyed but numerous systems are in need of repair. Another size 20 salvo is also detected. The AMM missiles where not effective at all. The second salvo is reduced to 8 missiles but this is still enough to destroy the crippled Broadsword 129 life pods are detected. The second Broadsword is hit by 6 missiles but manages to survive. We are now out of ASM's so defence and the hope they run out of missiles is all we have left.

They keep sending salvo after salvo and the fleet defends valiently but finally 13 missiles hit one of the Sunstrike sensor craft luckily the armor absorbs the impact. We finally run out of AMM missiles at 00:17 and can only wait for the end. The missile salvos end at 00:20 and all other craft manage to survive. Orders are given to pick-up any survivors and repairs are started.

Mineral Shortage

The TN minerals on Earth are starting to run low so over the next few years a mining program will be put into operation. This involves a full survey of the Sol system including the asteroids and mass drivers and automines on all minable bodies sending anything mined back to Earth. Once this is set-up in Sol the same thing will be carried out in Luyten 726-8 which is a mineral rich system. Any minerals stockpiled on Luyten 726-8 A II will then be transported to Earth by a fleet of Hercules.

18th September 2051

Survey group 2 have started surveying the newly discovered Lacaille 8760 system this jump point was from Barnards Star.

8th October 2051

The survey of Giclas 221-5 completes and no unexplored jump points are found.

12th November 2051

Survey group 1 discovers and starts a survey of Gliese 134. The first unexplored jump point is found on the 19th of January 2052.

6th March 2052

The V491 Persei has been discovered there are three planets with a colony cost of two and two moons with a cost of two. It's a good distance from Sol but it's could act as a forward base some time in the future.

4th April 2052

Gravsurvey completes in the Gliese 134 system only one jump point is found.

26th June 2052

The Pi-3 Orionis system is discovered and it contains three wrecks of 24,000, 16,000 and 8,000 tons could the 24,000 be a Tau Ceti Anubis?

23rd July 2052

The first unexplored jump point is found in the Pi-3 Orionis system.

29th September 2052

The redesign of The Fly Swatter Anti-Missile craft is completed and the Mesons have been removed and missile launchers added:

All the Fly Swatter MK 1 ships are now heading to Earth for a refit to the Mk 2 version.

5th June 2053

The Bujumbura empire have granted us trade access. We give them trade access too.

Just been having a look at the map and I've noticed that an unexplored jump point in the Pi-3 Orionis system has a jumpgate. It must be an alien design.

1st February 2054

The survey of the Pi-3 Orionis system completes and only two jump points where found one as noted above with an alien jumpgate. Maybe that explains the wrecks some salvage craft will come and explore the wrecks. The decision is also made to transit the alien jump gate to see if any signs of life can be found.

3rd April 2054

The Gliese 176 system is discovered by New Horizon 003 and one colonisable planet is in the system. There is also luckily an alien jumpgate on the other side.

27th September 2054

Another jump point with an alien jumpgate is found in the Gliese 176 system.

26th December 2054

The gravsurvey of Gliese 176 completes and only the alien jumpgate is found so the survey team head through it.

Well this is it I'm away in corfu for two weeks from tomorrow on holiday so before I go I'm going to have another go against the Tau Cet aliens.

The fleet is as follows:

Two Sunstrike MK 4 Sensor Ships

Two Broadsword ASM MK 3 Ships

Three Fly Swatter AMM MK 2 Ships

This is a small fleet but I want to see how things go.

19th January 2057

The Tau Ceti battle group refuel arm and move to the Tau Ceti gate.

28th January 2057

The battle group enters the Tau Ceti system and all weapons are readied. The fleet heads towards the wreck of the Sunstrike from the previous attempt.

29th January 2057

The first enemy contact is picked up a Spider class tonnage 8,000 range 207.4m kms the fleet heads towards the contact. At 20:57 both Broadsword class craft launch a salvo of four missiles. The Spider has an ECM which reduces the attack range to 99m km so we need to close. At 23:47 we are within range and open fire again twenty missiles are launched. Damn launced beyond the range of my missiles. Another mistake will try again. At 20:57 the Spider turns to try to escape.

Saturday 1 May 2010

Twenty Five Years

It's been 25 years since the Terran Federation first took a step to the stars and lot's has happened. The big issue at the moment is the gradual depletion of minerals on Earth although I have found numerous bodies in the surrounding systems with good amounts of minerals. To help with the shortages the mineral output on the civilian mining colonies on Pluto and Iapetus is purchased for our use at a cost of 750 wealth a year.

8th June 2050

A survey of the EG 168 system is started by survey group 1. The system contains no bodies and has just one star.

17th June 2050

Due to no bodies present the three Goldrush geo survey ships are despatched to Giclas 221-5 another unexplored system from NN 3106.

22nd June 2050

The jump gate on the Sol side of the Tau Ceti system is now complete so when we are ready transit to the system will not be a problem the only thing is it will be a one way trip until the Tau Ceti system is taken control of.

20th June 2050

Research completes on EM sensitvity 8 which will allow fire controls and active sensors to be smaller and more powerful.

24th September 2050

Gormus 001 whilst waiting at the Gliese 2 jump point in the NN 3106 system picks up an unknown alien craft on thermal sensors the intelligence service designate it as Ogdoad class. The thermal strenght is 180 which I'm sure means something to do with the size. Gormus 001 ctivate it's transponder and my best diplomatic team is assigned.

21st October 2050

A new jump point is discovered in the EG 168 system.

30th October 2050

The gravsurvey of the EG 168 system completes and only one unexplored jump point is found.

Just had a look at re-designing the military craft and I've realised that renaming tech is very important. Looking at the list I can't remember which sensor and fire control goes with which weapoon system and on which ship. In future I will give some kind of comparitive name for now I'll have a go at renaming and obsoleting and hope I can work it out. This is another good tip for any new players out there.

20th April 2051

The alien race encountered in NN 3106 indentify themselves as the Bujumbura Empire and we are currently neutral. Since the encounter no sign of them has been picked up.

20th July 2051

A new jump point is found in the EZ Aquarii system this survey has taken along time due to an error on my part something else that I messed up.

7th August 2051

Gravsurvey of EZ Aquarii finally completes and no unexplored jump points are found.

Well that's all for tonight still trying to get my head around the military designs should have something sorted by tomorrow then construction can start.

Friday 30 April 2010

Redesigning and Exploring

Yesterdays blip at the end of the session seems to have sorted itself out and I'm back in action. The first thing I need to do is research a higher level of EM sensor sensitivity the design below which I thought was a fire control is actually an active sensor which is huge:

Active Sensor Strength: 210 Sensitivity Modifier: 50%
Sensor Size: 10 HS Sensor HTK: 1
Primary Mode: Resolution: 1 Maximum Range: 1,050,000 km
Chance of destruction by electronic damage: 100%
Cost: 210 Crew: 50
Materials Required: 52.5x Duranium 157.5x Uridium

Development Cost for Project: 2100RP

By improving my EM tech I can design a smaller and probably more powerful version and also a fire control to go with it.

Also a glaring error in my Sunstrike command craft there was no active sensor to detect the missiles until it was too late so all you newbies take this onboard and don't make my mistake.

Another thing I've learnt the hard way is if you have a tanker with a fleet make sure the tanker can hold enough fuel to refuel the whole fleet and then return to a refuel point. I though the Gormus had enough capacity but found it's just a little short.

23rd February 2050

The gravsurvey completes in Upsilon Andromedea system no unexplored jump points are found.

28th April 2050

A friendly state of military cooperation is negotiated with the Peoples Republic of Gienah. This is due to the excellent abilities of our diplomacy teams.

2nd June 2050

The geosurvey team complete the survey of Iapetus.

Only a short update tonight need some rest before a hectic weekend. Should find time to play tomorrow night.

Thursday 29 April 2010

Oh dear let's try to get out of here!!!

10th August 2049

Well after last nights disastrous battle it's time to at least attempt an escape all craft are ordered to head towards the Sol jump point at full speed maybe they will give up the chase if we try to escape.

At 20:26 a salvo of 20 missiles hit Sunstrike this is our eyes in the system so things are really getting bad. Somehow the Sunstrike survives but three of it's five engines require repair as does it's active sensor. Also it splits from the main fleet it's speed has dropped to 2020 km/s. Going to try and pick up any lifepods on the way past.

New thermal contact more missiles the damage is 6 per missile!!!

Fly Swatter MK 2 is destroyed 235 survivors make it to the life pods unfortunately Commodore Dylan Mcdonald is killed by a direct hit to the bridge.

Oh dear more missiles this must be the attack on Broadsword 005 which is destroyed with 108 survivors who will float in space for eternity.

The Sunstrike is still heading towards the Sol jump point maybe one ship may have a chance.

At 20:53 the Sunstrike repairs it's engines and increases it's speed to 2424 km/s at 21:36 another missile salvo is picked up on thermal sensors.

At 21:37 the final Terran ship is destroyed leaving another 123 survivors with no hope of rescue.

Things didn't go well but more info has been gathered to help us prepare better next time also numerous people on the forums have been giving me helpful tips.

Lets review what we know:

The alien missiles do 6 points of damage each and are fired in salvos of 20 which totals 120 damage they travel at 32,000 km/s and the range is just over 60,000 kms. All ship speeds are estimated at 5625 and the Anubis has a tonnage of 24,000. They also have ECM which cut our missile range in half.

A radical redesign and rethink is required and also a push in our tech to match or even exceed them. We will return and the lessons learned will make them wish they never met us!!!

I think the best idea is decide on the fleet composition then work on each ship individually I also need to go through all the fantastic info in the forum post and put it to good use.

Ok going through the forum info the following needs to be looked at:

Research Meson Focusing Tech
Aim for firecontrols on beam weapons with double the range of the weapons
Research Gauss Tech for antimissile defence
Research next tech for Armor
Active sensors required on all anti-missile ships
Also a small anti-missile active sensor on the Sunstrike
Look at CIWs on all craft
Use at least 4 levels of armor more if possible
Research and design anti-missiles and launchers
Make the anti-ship missile fire control range as large as possible to help futureproof as new missiles are designed
Also research ECCM to help counter the enemy ECM
Use 10cm Meson instead of 12cm
Fleets needs more ships at least a tonnage equal or more if higher tech level
80+ tons is recommended
Use 12 layers of armor on Command ships and Fleet scouts and all other important ships

Lots to think about and in the meantime we are still surveying new systems and building up our empire.

The following new missile is designed:

20th August 2049

Commander Louis Wilson is captured by the Tau Ceti aliens maybe that means there is some hope however slim for the survivors. Not sure how this capture will effect the game though.

25th August 2049

Message received from the Peoples Republic of Gienah that we are now regard us as a friendly empire we also have access to there future geological survey data. We also receive that 108 crew from the ill fated Broadsword 005 have perished.

1st Spetember 2049

The salvage ship Scrap Merchant 001 completes and is given orders to salvage the wrecks in the Luyten 726-8 system and see what info we can find. It may help us in our fight against the Tau Ceti aliens.

13th October 2049

The first ship is salvaged and minerals are found and a scan of the tech data and 680 research points are gained towards magazine feed system efficiency. The Scrap Mechant 001 is told to salvage the next wreck.

20th October 2049

The second wreck only yields minerals but a civilian colony craft is spotted delivering colonists to Luyten 726-8 A II. The final wreck can now be salvaged.

22nd October 2049

More minerals and 60 research points towards small craft ECCM. For now Scrap Merchant returns to dock at Earth to download all data salvaged from the wrecks.

1st December 2049

The supply of Tritanium on Earth has run out but we still have a good size stockpile although mining colonies are going to be needed sooner rather than later.

3rd December 2049

The decision is made to build a jump gate to the Tau Ceti system this will negate the need for a jump tender and not restrict combat ship size for the fleet. Once the system is taken then a gate can be constructed on the other side.

2nd February 2049

Time seems to have stopped moving and I've read on the forums this happens when the AI are having battles and all that can be done is to wait till it resolves and events affect the player again. So I'll just have to wait.

Going to call it a night and leave the game running hopefully by tomorrow they will have sorted out there differences.

Wednesday 28 April 2010

Whatever happened to the Tau Ceti aliens? Pt 2

After posting on the forums the problem encountered yesterday has been sorted and a MK 2 version of the Gateway military jump tender has been designed:

Gateway MK 2 class Jump Tender 5400 tons 392 Crew 713.4 BP TCS 108 TH 240 EM 0

EM Detection Sensor EM5-25 (1) Sensitivity 25 Detect Sig Strength 1000: 25m km

This design is classed as a military vessel for maintenance purposes

Once the MK 1 has been retrofitted we can finally probe the Tau Ceti system. Also a second survey group has been put together to allow exploration of two systems at a time and the jump gate linking Luyten 726-8 with Gliese 892. Colonisation of Luyten 726-8 A II will now commence as the system has lots of minable minerals which will be required as time moves on.

12th September 2048

Survey group 1 discovers the Gliese 96 system and a survey is started. Survey group 2 are ordered to complete the survey of EZ Aquarii.

15th September 2048

Research completes into active grav sensor 21 which allows us to design sensors with greater ranges and sensitivity. Based on this new tech the following active sensor is designed:

Active Sensor Strength: 210 Sensitivity Modifier: 50%
Sensor Size: 10 HS Sensor HTK: 1
Primary Mode: Resolution: 200 Maximum Range: 210,000,000 km
Chance of destruction by electronic damage: 100%
Cost: 210 Crew: 50
Materials Required: 52.5x Duranium 157.5x Uridium

Development Cost for Project: 2100RP

Once research completes this will replace the current active sensors on all ships and PDC's.

24th September 2048

Survey group 2 discover the Ross 780 system and a grav and geosurvey is started.

4th October 2048

The first jump point is found in the Ross 780 system.

19th October 2048

The retooling to the Gateway MK 2 completes and the refit is started this should complete by June 2049. Hopefully the new sensors can be installed on the Sunstrike command craft this will make our chance of detecting the aliens in the Tau Ceti system much better.

30th October 2048

The first unexplored jump point is found in the Gleise 96 system.

20th November 2048

The Paradise terraforming ship completes and moves to Mar to start terraforming operations.

21st November 2048

Two new jump points found in the Ross 780 system. Also terraforming starts on Mars with the addition of Oxygen to the atmosphere.

Oops just realised you need to build jump gates at both sides of a jump point oh well as I said before this is all a learning curve and anyone reading this will hopefully not make the same mistake.

15th January 2049

The survey of Ross 780 system completes and three unexplored jump points are discovered. The geosurvey results are as follows:

Rocky Planets: 2 Surveyed: 2
Gas Giants: 2 Surveyed: 2

13th May 2049

Survey group 1 discovered the Upsilon Andromedae system and we finally find a colonisable planet. The second planet orbiting the B star has a colony cost of 2.05 which is very good I will aim to colonise as soon as possible the only downside is the distance from the home system which will make defense difficult.

27th June 2049

The retrofit of the Gateway military jump tender completes and the exploration of the Tau Ceti system can now begin. The Gateway craft is given order to proceed to the Tau Ceti jump point.

3rd August 2049

finally the Tau Ceti jump point is transitted by a fleet of four craft. On entering the system the immediate area around the Sol jump point is quiet nothing detected. The fleet starts moving towards the planetary systems.

7th August 2049

Halfway to the waypoint set and still no sign of contact.

10th August 2049

Active sensors have picked up a Spider class alien craft at a range of 144 m/km at 20:04 a new contact is picked up a Marshal class alien craft. At 20:17 we detect and open fire on an Anubis alien craft the estimated tonnage is 24,000. I've managed to target the Anubis but due to there ECM my fire range has been reduced to 57,600,000k km so we are closing range. At 63,000,000 k km we pick up a new thermal contact strength 16 which I think may be missiles on the system map it shows up as 16 * 20 so I guess it's 20 missiles damn. There closing fast at 31,799 km/s. The missiles hit at 20:44 and all where aimed at the Gateway which is damaged and detaches from the fleet but it's not destroyed. We are still out of range not sure why my anti-missile ship didn't shoot any down. At 20:45 another 20 missiles are picked up and still I'm unable to target them with my anti-missile ship.

At 20:45 the Gateway craft is destroyed and 147 survivors make it to the lifepods including Commander Louis Wilson. This now means we have now way to return to Sol so things are looking bad. 20 more missiles detected at 20:46 and the crew are starting to panic.

Well thats 's all for tonight I have tons of questions but at least I've experienced my first real combat.
